Uses

UP Liquid in the Wet End

UP Liquid is an appropriate OBA to be used in sized unfilled and filled paper and board at pH 4-9 as well as in unsized paper, provided water hardness is above 50ppm CaO. Suitable OBA for furnishes containing large proportion of mechanical pulp or secondary fibre.

Shade

UP Liquid gives a neutral shade in all applications. It only has a tendency to produce a greenish hue, if too high an amount is used.

Stability

UP Liquid shows a high level of stability in storage and at cold temperatures. Prolonged storage at temperatures below 0°C can result in the product freezing but the product can be thawed without loss of effectiveness, if left to stand at room temperature or heated briefly to a temperature not higher than 60°C.
Fastness Properties

The product's light fastness is comparable to those of other OBAs with the same chemical constitution.

Safety & Environment

The usual hygiene and safety rules for handling chemicals must be observed in storage, handling and use. Further information is given in the Safety Data Sheet.

UP Liquid in the Wet End application

UP Liquid can be added either batch wise in the pulper or mixing chest, or dosed continuously at suitable dosing points in the stock preparation system.

Care must be taken that the product is applied prior to either alum or cationic auxiliaries.

Although UP Liquid has high affinity for cellulose, the whiteness depends on the treatment time and the consistency of the furnish. The best effect is obtained if the product is dosed at points where the furnish is of high consistency. This is particularly true, if the water is soft.

Typical dosage: 0.2-1.0 parts based on the coating pigment.
(Depending upon final brightness requirement)

Note: Dilute solutions must not be exposed to natural light.
